Artist: Haley Cavotta
I feel differently about this piece every time I look at it. I remember its history, and its strange how it arrived here. I set out to paint a skatepark. Skateparks have shapes and worn paint that I just love. But rarely can I set out to paint something specific and feel satisfied. The painting just needs to become what it needs to become.
There is a delicacy, a solitude, a safety I have felt, along with a sense of doom when I view this piece finished. Although I didn't set out to, it recalls my recurring tsunami dreams, most recently featuring a glass enclosure I took to for shelter when the wave hit.
