The term pandemonium is a compound word formed by joining the Greek words “pan” and “demonious” meaning ‘a place or abode of all demons. Thanks to the pandemic the world now shares the same address in hell.
The notion of an uninhibited creative psyche is the modus operandi for the bulk of my artwork. I have employed this psychic technique as an apparatus for understanding the enigmas of existence. Recently I embarked on an explorative excursion of the unconscious, tasked with the arduous mission of finding meaning in the awfulness that is the pandemic.
The customary glut of unconscious compositions, unplanned amalgamations and unreal deformations was not what materialized. No mind jarring juxtapositions with suggested symbolism here, rather an abstraction of intuitive shapes and minimal color palates contained within the constructs of a rudimentary but very exacting set of aesthetic ordinances. Pure simplification, not what I desired but definitely what was necessary.
There's no denying the hope that beauty inflicts upon a misanthropic world, enabling humankind to perceive things anew.

“Primitive Folk Art” is a moniker commonly adopted to characterize a variety of artwork that is naïve in nature, often produced by commoners who have not been schooled as artisans or haven’t created within the conventional structures of art production.
The popularization and propagation of a rigorously structured art education system has created a genus of professionalized creative licentiates. This accidental defloration, eradicates the autodidact that is essential to generate “Raw Art”.

This body of work (Loam, Bole, and Clunch) is the result of my obsession with collecting peculiar objects and repurposing them though juxtaposition and surgically altering their original form. Taking everyday objects and manipulating them into pieces of art, while avoiding the stipulations of classically accepted mediums, is a testament to my creative mindset.
The marriage of Surrealism's dream-laden fetish for the grotesque and Pop art's celebration of popular imagery superimposed into a composition which pays homage to geometric abstraction while infusing lysergic shapes establishes a cynical dimension to lay out my parable.
The creation of man from clay is a miraculous birth theme that recurs throughout world religions and mythologies. The plasticity of the material gives light to its symbolic meaning, but as a artist I am most interested in whom did the creating not what was created. A symbol is a physical thing that stands for an idea, by splicing together archetypal symbols I hope to explain how this great mystery unfolded, thus providing a new twist on a story as old as dirt.

I love organic forms, and amoeba-like shapes. I like to pour glue or paint and let it drift and flow. Rubbing ink over dried glue cause the glue to soften and catch the ink at a different depth than its surroundings. and the tacky glue captures charcoal and they merge, as opposed to the charcoal sitting vulnerably on the surface. I added hair, created some eyes, and scratched away a mouth. This shape wanted to be a monster face.

As I scroll through old photos of things that catch my eye, I notice a lot of images of roads, painted streets with lines and arrows. These shapes that we see everyday, that guide us though to safety, I often find myself staring at in admiration at stoplights. Painted curbs against raw concrete. Concrete walls meeting a grassy field. And I love the poured tube bases of parking lot lights, the spiral of the cardboard mold that created its permanent beauty. I think this piece conjured up some of that appreciation. There was a lot of doing and un-doing, covering and uncovering, applying and scratching away. I like balancing organic textures within awkward structured shapes.

My serenity is often interrupted by bizarre vignettes that pop willy-nilly into my head. Etched into my brain permanently i decided to recreate these surreal snippets into miniature dioramas in hopes of gaining some insight into their meaning. Do to their enigmatic nature they are compartmentalized in my head with no rhyme or reason. So rather then corrupting their immaculacy with logic, I decided to present them as haphazardly as they exist in my psyche.
The tradition of displaying collections of kitsch in shadow boxes as a tribute to ones poor taste has always appealed to my lesser aesthetic sensibilities. What better way to reveal the darkest thoughts that clutter my mind.

This was one of several canvas panels I was playing with as I experimented with some newer techniques over canvas as opposed to a smooth panel. I liked the results I was getting working over the smooth MDF panels, but weight and warping were becoming a concern as I considered larger pieces.
Working wet on wet here in very thin transparent layers, the pigments created some interesting gradients as I pulled and skimmed wet paint over top.

There is a strange and paradoxically beautiful element of being, which is that you can be whatever you want to be. The paradox comes from the fact that while you can, you likely won’t.
The reason we do not become our true self is a matter of spiritual hygiene. We can all feel the difference between a messy home and a clean home. Clutter, refuse, and objects that are not in their proper places create confusion, imbalance, and waste our time. This is true for our physical lives as well as for our emotional and spiritual lives.
This personal shrine spurs spiritual adherence to the expression "cleanliness is next to godliness".
Remember, you don’t have a soul., you are a soul. you have a body, so keep it squeaky clean.

Nothing short of a lobotomy will enable me to create within the genre I revere. The following work is my meager attempt, please enjoy my failure.

I could not have set out intentionally to create a piece that I would consider this lovely. I remember feeling so elated as it came together, amazed that I could have had something to do with its existence.
There were several layers and moves made using bright greens, pink and orange. I remember that my impatience and disgust caused me to angrily skim and cover up what I've done, but I think this result is so delicate and simple with its transparent paper-like quality.

I was experimenting here on canvas panels, trying to translate some recent discoveries from the process on smooth panels, to a textured panel. The thin layering produced some interesting subtleties and grain.

I feel differently about this piece every time I look at it. I remember its history, and its strange how it arrived here. I set out to paint a skatepark. Skateparks have shapes and worn paint that I just love. But rarely can I set out to paint something specific and feel satisfied. The painting just needs to become what it needs to become.
There is a delicacy, a solitude, a safety I have felt, along with a sense of doom when I view this piece finished. Although I didn't set out to, it recalls my recurring tsunami dreams, most recently featuring a glass enclosure I took to for shelter when the wave hit.

I poured glue on a clay board, creating an amoeba-like shape that I liked. And as it dried, the glue slowly moved to form a second shape.
Sometimes the work just wants to be something. Like a landscape or a face. So, I let it be a face.
